Update About Students' Visa Status

Dennis Galvan, vice provost for global engagement, sent the following message to international students, faculty, and staff on Tuesday, April 29, 2025

Dear International Community,

On April 8, I shared that the federal administration was summarily terminating the legal status records of international students around the US, with four cases at UO.

I’m pleased to let you know that after many lawsuits, including some from Oregon, the federal administration has reversed course. All four UO students and most students facing similar terminations across the country have had their legal visa status restored.

This means that all four UO students will continue their studies and employment at UO. We are mindful that this situation may continue to evolve in unexpected ways. The staff in International Student and Scholar Services and the Division of Global Engagement will continue to monitor developments, update the Immigration Resources and FAQ webpage, and provide timely updates.

On behalf of all who work with UO’s international community, let me share sincere gratitude for the many forms of outreach, empathy care, and direct support in this difficult time. It’s inspiring to live and work in a place in which students, faculty, staff, and the wider community rally to make sure people from all over the world feel safe and welcome on this campus.

Sincerely,

Dennis Galvan
Dean and Vice Provost, Division of Global Engagement
