Undergraduate and exchange students: This pre-arrival checklist is a step-by-step guide on the requirements necessary to register for classes.
Graduate students: Please follow the pre-arrival checklist on the Division of Graduate Studies website.
Law students: You should pay particular attention to steps 1, 2, 3, 6 and 7.
Definitions:
UO ID = 9-digit student ID number that starts with 95xxxxxxx.
PAC (Personal Access Code) = 6-digit number/letter security code; used with UO ID
DuckID = primary network login and also first part of a student’s UO email address (duckid@uoregon.edu); used with a password

1. Claim your DuckID
Note: New undergraduate students (not exchange or visiting students) must first submit your Intent to Register through your UO Status Portal before you can claim your DuckID.

How do I claim my DuckID?
To claim your DuckID, go to https://duckid.uoregon.edu/duckid-selfservice/accountClaim/find. You will need to know your UO 95 ID number and your Personal Access Code (PAC).
Where do I find my PAC?
Undergraduate students will receive your PAC after being admitted to UO. If you did not receive a temporary PAC or have misplaced your temporary PAC, please email admissions@uoregon.edu. To reset your PAC go to https://secureservices.uoregon.edu/registrar/id-pac-reset.
2. Enroll in Duo
Once you claim your DuckID, you need to enroll in Duo, UO's two-step login service to secure your DuckID accounts.

3. Set up your UOmail
Once you claim your DuckID, you need to set up the UOmail app on your phone or laptop. Your UO email address will be your "duckid"@uoregon.edu. Once you set up UOmail, you must check your email every day - all important communication from the UO will be sent to your UOmail account.

TIP! Read your @uoregon.edu email with attention and take action when required. We can’t emphasize this enough. Go to UOMail and login with your full @uoregon.edu address and your DuckID password. To change your password, go to duckid.uoregon.edu.
4. Register for Orientation
Undergraduate degree-seeking students (not Exchange and Visiting Students) are required to register for orientation in your admissions status portal as soon as possible! Registering for orientation puts you into the system to receive information on all orientation requirements, so do not wait to register!
There are 5 orientation components required for degree-seeking undergraduate international students. For complete details, go to https://isss.uoregon.edu/iso.
NOTE: Exchange & visiting students do NOT register for orientation but are REQUIRED to attend International Student Orientation. For complete details, go to https://isss.uoregon.edu/iso.
5. Download "Navigate Student" App
This step is only for undergraduate degree-seeking students.
(Exchange students do NOT download Navigate and do not need to meet with an academic advisor to register for classes. Exchange students should follow their Course Registration Guide included with the admit packet.)
After you claim your DuckID, download "Navigate Student" which is required for initial academic advising so you can register for classes.
The Navigate Student app’s most useful features include:
- Scheduling advising appointments
- Class schedule
- To-Dos and Events
- Registration Holds
- Study Buddies
6. Submit Insurance Compliance Form
Required of all new international students. You will be BLOCKED from registering for UO classes until this requirement is met.
All international students must sign the insurance compliance form to confirm you understand that you must have health insurance to study and live in the U.S.
To sign the "Insurance Compliance Form" login to myUOHealth. You cannot register for classes until you sign this form.
7. Submit Proof of Immunizations/Vaccines
Required of all new international students.
IMPORTANT NOTE: You will be BLOCKED from registering for UO classes until you submit evidence of having received the Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccine. Do not wait to submit the MMR vaccine proof so that the registration hold on your account can be removed. All other vaccines can be submitted up until the start of the term and do not have a registration hold.
You are required to submit documentation of required immunization (vaccines) and a Tuberculosis (TB) Screening Questionnaire before your arrival to the U.S. You will not be able to register for classes until you meet these requirements. Please complete the following steps before arrival, if possible.
1. Contact your doctor and request documentation that you have received the required vaccines to study in the U.S. If your doctor cannot provide you with documentation, please ask your doctor to complete the UO Certificate of Immunization Status form.
2. Once you have the documentation or UO Certificate of Immunization Status from your doctor, log into myUOHealth with your DuckID and enter the dates of your completed vaccines and upload the documentation from your doctor. For instructions on how to use the myUOHealth portal, click HERE.
3. Log into myUOHealth and complete the “Tuberculosis (TB) Screening Questionnaire” in the "Forms" section. If you are at a higher risk of TB, you will be notified by the UO Health Center with further instructions.

If you cannot complete all of the required vaccines in your home country prior to arrival, you will be required to get the vaccines at the UO Health Center and will be charged accordingly. You cannot register for classes until this requirement is met. We strongly recommend you complete all vaccines prior to arrival.

8. Take the AEIS Placement Test
Required for some new undergraduate degree-seeking students. Exchange & visiting students do not take the AEIS placement test.
AEIS Program: AEIS classes help international students develop advanced expertise in English. AEIS classes are credit-bearing and count toward your UO graduation requirement. They must be completed in the first year.
AEIS Placement Test: New international undergraduate students are required to take the online Academic English for International Students (AEIS) Placement Test to determine which, if any, AEIS courses you need to take in your first year of study at the UO.
Exemptions: The only way to be exempt from taking the AEIS Placement Test is if you meet one of these conditions. To help us determine if you are exempt from taking the AEIS placement test, click on the link below to complete a simple AEIS survey:

If you are required to take the AEIS Placement Test, the UO Testing Center will send an email to your UO email account with a testing voucher and instructions to take the test online. You must take the AEIS Placement test before registering for classes.

9. Apply for On-Campus Housing
Fall 2023: Non-freshman students (which would include transfer, exchange and visiting students) starting at the UO this fall and looking to live on campus for 2023–24 academic year are invited to register for housing at https://housing.uoregon.edu/register. Registration begins in mid-December and the deadline is June 30, 2023. We anticipate spaces for non-first-time, full-time students will be limited. There will be an interest wait list if capacity is reached. The interest wait list will be used as spaces become available, with priority based on earliest registration date. Those who have not been offered a residence hall assignment by August 15, 2023, will be asked if they would like to remain on the list.
10. Read about Health Insurance at the UO
All new international students will be automatically enrolled in and billed for the UO Student Health Benefits Plan. If you have other health insurance which meets or exceeds the university’s requirements, you may qualify for a waiver of the UO Student Health Benefits Plan, but deadlines apply and waiver criteria is strictly enforced. International Graduate Employees Only:
International GEs are automatically enrolled in and billed for the UO Student Health Benefits Plan. However, Graduate Employees are also eligible for the GTFF GE Health Insurance Plan administered by the Graduate Teaching Fellows Federation (GTFF) labor union which costs a fraction of the UO Student Health Benefits Plan. You are not automatically enrolled in the GTFF GE Health Insurance Plan. To enroll, click on GTFF GE Health Insurance.
